Privacy policy

1. Who we are

MapBridge is an independent mobile application for iOS and Android. It converts Google Maps links into Amap (高德地圖) navigation links for use in Hong Kong, Mainland China, and Macau. There is no company, backend server, or account system behind this app.

2. Data we do not collect

MapBridge does not collect, store remotely, or transmit:

  • Your name, email address, or any account information

  • Your device location or GPS coordinates

  • Analytics, crash reports, or usage statistics

  • Clipboard contents beyond detecting a Google Maps link while the app is open

  • Any information from your Google Takeout import file

3. Clipboard access

When the app is open and clipboard monitoring is enabled, MapBridge reads your clipboard once to check whether it contains a Google Maps link. This check happens entirely on your device. The clipboard content is never sent to any server. On iOS and Android, the system may display a notification when an app reads the clipboard; this is expected behaviour.

You can turn off clipboard monitoring at any time in Settings → Clipboard Monitoring.

4. Conversion history and saved places

Converted links and any places you star or import are stored in your device's local storage only. This data never leaves your device. If you uninstall the app, all locally stored data is deleted by the operating system.

5. Google Takeout import

When you import a Google Takeout archive (.zip file), the file is read and parsed entirely on your device. No part of the file or its contents is uploaded to any server. MapBridge extracts place names and coordinates, stores them locally, and discards the rest in memory.

6. External services

Tapping Open in Amap launches the Amap app or website on your device. Any data shared with Amap at that point (destination coordinates, place name) is governed by Amap's own privacy policy, published by AutoNavi / Alibaba Group. MapBridge has no control over and no visibility into that interaction.

When resolving a shortened Google Maps link (maps.app.goo.gl), the app makes a network request to Google's servers to follow the redirect. No additional data beyond the URL itself is sent. This is governed by Google's privacy policy.

7. No advertising or tracking

MapBridge contains no advertising SDKs, no tracking pixels, no third-party analytics libraries, and no fingerprinting of any kind.

8. Children's privacy

MapBridge is not directed at children under 13 (or the applicable age of digital consent in your jurisdiction) and does not knowingly collect data from such children. Because no personal data is collected from any user, this is satisfied by design.

9. Changes to this policy

If this policy is updated, the revised version will be published with a new "Last updated" date. Because the app collects no personal data, material changes are unlikely. Continued use of the app after a change constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
