Kiko - pawcare tracker
Privacy policy
1. Introduction
Kiko PawCare Tracker ("Kiko", "we", "our") is a pet health and medication management app for iOS and Android, developed by Bearapp Limited. This policy explains what data Kiko collects, why, how it is stored, and what rights you have over it.
Our founding principle is that your pet's health data belongs to you. We collect only what is necessary to deliver the app's features, and we never sell or share your data with advertisers or third-party analytics platforms.
2. Data We Collect
2.1 Data you enter directly
Pet profiles — name, species, breed, date of birth, weight, gender, and an optional profile photo.
Medications — name, dosage, schedule, notes, and an optional pill reference photo.
Dose logs — date, time, who administered the dose, and any notes.
Symptom journals — free-text entries and AI Symptom Checker results you choose to save.
Weight history — entries you record manually.
Your display name — shown to other household members so they can see who logged a dose.
2.2 Account data (via Clerk)
Kiko uses Clerk (clerk.com) to manage authentication. When you create an account, Clerk collects your email address and, if you choose, signs you in through Apple or Google. Your email is used solely for authentication and account recovery — it is not used for marketing, not stored in Kiko's own database, and not shared with third parties. Clerk processes this data under their own privacy policy at clerk.com/privacy.
2.3 Device identifiers
Kiko generates a random device ID on first launch and stores it locally. This ID is sent to Kiko's servers when you join or create a household, to identify your device within that household (for co-owner sync and alerts). It is not linked to your name, email, or any advertising identifier.
2.4 Push tokens
When you join a shared household, Kiko registers your device's push token (an anonymous identifier issued by Apple APNs or Google FCM via Expo's push service) on Kiko's servers. This token is used only to deliver co-owner dose alerts within your household. It is deleted automatically when your device leaves the household or the household is dissolved.
2.5 Location (map feature only)
When you open the Nearby Places map, Kiko requests foreground location permission to find vets, parks, and pet-friendly places near you. Your coordinates are sent to the Google Places API to retrieve results. Kiko does not store your location on its servers, does not log location history, and only accesses your location while the map screen is open.
2.6 Photos
Photos you add for pet profiles or pill references are uploaded to Kiko's own secure object storage. They are not shared with any third party, not used for any purpose other than display within the app, and are deleted when you delete the associated record or your household.
3. How We Use Your Data
Pet profiles, medications, and dose logs — core app functionality; synced across your household's devices.
Display name — shown to other household members in dose logs and alerts.
Device ID — household membership and co-owner alert routing.
Push token — delivering co-owner dose alerts via APNs/FCM.
Location — finding nearby vets and pet-friendly places (not stored by Kiko).
Photos — displaying pet profile pictures and pill references in the app.
Clerk account data — authentication and account recovery.
We do not use any of your data for advertising, profiling, or sale to third parties.
4. Data Sharing
Kiko does not sell, rent, or trade your personal data. Data is shared only in the following limited circumstances:
Within your household — pet profiles, medications, dose logs, and member display names are visible to all members of a household you create or join. You control who is in your household.
Clerk — authentication data is processed by Clerk under their privacy policy.
Expo Push Service — push tokens and generic dose-alert payloads are relayed through Expo's infrastructure (expo.dev) to Apple APNs or Google FCM. No pet names, medication names, or health data are included in push payloads.
Google Places API — your location coordinates are sent to Google to retrieve nearby place results when you use the map feature. This is governed by Google's Privacy Policy (policies.google.com/privacy).
Legal obligations — we may disclose data if required to do so by law or in response to a valid legal request.
5. Data Storage and Security
Household data (pet profiles, medications, dose logs, member records) is stored on Kiko's servers hosted within secure cloud infrastructure. Data in transit is encrypted using TLS. Device-local data (cached records, settings) is stored in your device's private app storage and is not accessible to other apps.
We do not operate in jurisdictions that require specific regulatory certifications (e.g. HIPAA) but we apply equivalent care: no health data is disclosed to unauthorised parties, and access to production databases is restricted to Bearapp Limited personnel on a need-to-know basis.
6. Data Retention
Local data is erased when you uninstall the app.
Server-side household data (pets, medications, dose logs, members) is retained while the household exists.
Push tokens are deleted when a device leaves a household or a household is dissolved.
Clerk account data is retained by Clerk until you request deletion.
You may request permanent deletion of all server-side data associated with your household by contacting us at support@bearapplimited.com. We will delete your household data and request Clerk account deletion within 7 days.
